DAB Digital
Radio: the Radio of the Future
Multipath Reception
Until now, analogue radio signals such as FM or MW have been subject
to numerous kinds of interference on their way from the transmitter
to your car. These problems were caused by land formations such
as mountains, high-rise buildings, and weather conditions, and
they all had a negative effect on reception quality. DAB, however,
uses these effects as reflectors, creating multipath reception
conditions to optimize car receiver sensitivity. This phenomenon
can be compared to a parabolic mirror, which focuses and amplifies
incoming light rays at its centre. Since DAB always selects the
strongest regional transmitter automatically, you'll always be
at the focal point of incoming radio signals.
Aside from distortion-free
reception and CD-quality sound, DAB offers further advantages:
Primary and secondary
services
Radio stations often provide a whole series of different services.
In addition to primary automobile services, they can also provide
secondary services for data transfer.
Announcement support
Announcement codes give priority to information such as weather
and news. If, for example, you want to receive messages during
news broadcasts, the radio switches to the corresponding service.
Dynamic Label Segment
Dynamic Label Segment can transmit radio text of up to 128 characters
and display it on the screen in 2 x 16 character format. Short
messages can also be displayed in the form of headlines.
Service Following
If you're travelling outside a DAB transmission zone, the receiver
switches to the best available FM RDS station in the selected
service network. The same feature allows transmission between
different DAB zones.
